First International Workshop on VLBI Observations

چکیده

In order to enable VLBI observations of satellite targets on a regular basis, proper scheduling procedures need to be in place. The Vienna VLBI Software VieVS has been used to schedule about 40 of these test sessions, triggering large developments in the scheduling tools. We report on the current capabilities of the available software and discuss present difficulties when preparing a new experiment. In the second part we concentrate on the scheduling of VLBI sessions observing the very low APOD satellite with the Australian AuScope array.

Guy Bomford Prize Lecture 2011 Atmospheric Effects in Space Geodesy

The atmosphere is surrounding the solid Earth and the oceans, and with its variations at time scales from seconds to decades it opens up a wide field of challenging and fascinating tasks in space geodesy. The investigation of these atmospheric effects and the analysis of geodetic Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) observations have dominated my research in the past decade. Geodetic VLBI w...

First e - VLBI observations of Cygnus X - 3

We report the results of the first two 5 GHz e-VLBI observations of the X-ray binary Cygnus X-3 using the European VLBI Network. Two successful observing sessions were held, on 2006 April 20, when the system was in a quasi-quiescent state several weeks after a major flare, and on 2006 May 18, a few days after another flare. At the first epoch we detected faint emission probably associated with ...

First e - VLBI observations of GRS 1915 + 105 3

We present results from the first successful open call e-VLBI science run, observing the X-ray binary GRS1915+105. e-VLBI science allows the rapid production of VLBI radio maps, within hours of an observation rather than weeks, facilitating a decision for follow-up observations. A total of 6 telescopes observing at 5 GHz across the European VLBI Network (EVN) were correlated in real time at the...

Deep Extragalactic VLBI-Optical Survey (DEVOS) I. Pilot MERLIN and VLBI observations

We present the results of the pilot observations of the Deep Extragalactic VLBI-Optical Survey (DEVOS). Our ultimate aim is to collect information on compact structures in a large sample of extragalactic radio sources (∼ 10 objects) up to two orders of magnitude fainter than those studied in typical imaging Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) surveys up until now. This would lead to an unp...
